Open Question: How do I get rid of my accent?

I recently moved from Plainview, New York (a small town on Long Island) to Riverside, California, and I keep getting made fun of because of my New York accent. When I was in New York, nobody EVER made a comment, nor did my cousins who live in Pennsylvania and Connecticut.
